Business Innovation Factory- Community of Innovators

We recently returned from the best event I’ve attended- BIF-4.  Its put on by the Business Innovation Factory- a non-profit based in Providence, RI.  The objective of BIF is to create a “community of innovators collaborating to explore and test better ways to deliver value.”

The format of the event is perfect- invite a small group of people to hear stories from innovators from all types of industries.  As the founder Saul Kaplan put it- invite people you’d want to have telling stories around your dinner table.   They give the speakers an intimate setting- 300 people- and 15 minutes to tell their story.   Read the rest of this entry »

The Yellow Tag Interview- The Dynamics of Innovation in a Large Corporation

Geek Squad Founder and Chief Inspector Robert Stephens interviewed Gary Koelling and me to hear the origins of BlueShirt Nation as well as the obstacles that we’ve encountered since the site went live in 2006.
We also went into a pretty deep conversation about  the dynamics of innovation in a large corporation.

This video is part of a series called the Yellow Tag interview.  Its purpose is to get an intimate look into the lives and thoughts of Best Buy leaders, employees, and outside partners.  I’m trying to get all the videos of the series posted to www.YouTube.com/bestbuy.   Hopefully they’ll be up in a couple weeks- just have to edit them down.

Churchill Club Dinner Recap

In June, I was part of a panel hosted by Charlene Li.  I represented Best Buy. Other companies included Oracle, Avenue A, and Serena Software.

We were there to talk about how social tech is changing the way business is done.

Paul Krill from Computer World put together a nice recap of the major points.  Read it here.
